Two small ink spots at the top of the back cover. Each plate has faded slightly onto the blank backside of the preceding plate. Margins faintly age-toned. Text itself is unmarked and binding is secure. Comes in a custom-made box covered in blue cloth. The edges of the cloth are starting to split and fray. RARE first issue in the original boards! Illustrated with 36 color plates by Robert Cruikshank (brother of the better known George Cruikshank). See Cohn 264 and Tooley 197. This copy contains the bookplate of T. Bigelow Lawrence. .
