Description: The Continental Publishing Company and National Publishing Co, 1873. 1st Edition. Hardcover. 518p plus advertisements. A gilt purple cloth hardcover book in acceptable condition. The binding is secure, though quite cockeyed, and bits of cloth are chipping off the spine and its edges. The spine is also tanned, and the edges are a bit rubbed and faded. Old owner's signature on front free endpaper, dated 1922, and pencil notes on rear endpaper. Some foxing inside, mostly on and around the illustrations. Hinges a little shaky, but all pages attached. A scarce contemporary account of the Credit Mobilier scandal involving the Union Pacific Railroad. Illustrated with black and white engravings. .
