Translated from French to English by Emma Craufurd. This book is an ecumenical dialogue between a Catholic (Guitton) and various Protestant theological and ecclesiological positions. Guitton tackles the issue of the Gospel and the revelation of Christ in relation to the historical development of Christian doctrine. His dialogue is constructed as a sort of apology for the Catholic Church's position on its own identity vis-a-vis Christ's proclamation of the kingdom in the Gospels. Guitton also addresses the phenomenon of Catholic-Protestant disagreement even after rational dialogue. .
