Description: Paris, Vives, 1889. Hardcover. COMPLETE 34 VOLUME SET OF THE WORKS OF THOMAS AQUINAS IN THE ORIGINAL LATIN. Quarto volumes, each measuring 7 1/2 x 10 1/2 inches. Uniformly bound in brown buckram with black leather spine labels, Ex-seminary library books. The ex-libris markings include shelf labels on spines, bookplates on the front endpapers, rear endpaper pockets, and the library name stamped on the title pages. Overall good condition with clean, complete, and unmarked text. A few pages have tears with no loss of paper; the heaviest wear is in the final index volume wherein about a dozen pages are tape-repaired. Scattered light foxing throughout the set. The paper quality varies with the volumes printed in the 1870s being of a higher quality than those printed in 1889; about half the set is the lower quality paper which tends to tan with age. Title page in Vol. One tape repaired as well. RARE COMPLETE SET OF ONE OF THE THREE CRITICAL EDITIONS OF AQUINAS IN LATIN. The Vives Edition, along with the Leonine and Parma editions, is one of the three major critical editions of Aquinas prepared in the 19th century. Complete sets are rarely found. An excellent opportunity to acquire the work of the great medieval theologian/philosopher in the original text. Good .
