Latin version of the 'Catéchisme de Montpellier' by François-Aimé Pouget (1666-1723), first published in French in 1702 on order of Colbert, bishop of Montpellier. A remarkable work exposing catholic theology in a simple way. The Latin edition, which appeared in 1725 edited by Desmolets contained many more passages from scripture and the churchfathers than the French original. The catechism made carefull distinctions between catholic doctrine and the opinions of theologians; it was adopted everywhere in France and translated in many languages. This is the first Flemish edition. Shelf mark on first free endpapers. Four brown and two black labels missing. Most volumes shaved, with wear to covers and edges or slightly waterstained but in all a nice set. Marginal wormholes in the last pages of volume 11 and in the first pages of volume 12 but no loss of text. Nouv. Biogr. Gen. 40, 919-920; Hurter II, 1022. 3 copies of this edition in OCLC (nr. 18649748); 7 in Dutch central Catalog (NCC).
