Second edition (first 1647) of Hornius recension of the collected works of Sulpicius Severus (ab. 363 - 425), a Christian author from Southern France. His Sacra Historia was a widely read school-book, with a critical regard for chronology and especially important for the ecclesiastical history of the 4th century. This edition contains also the work on Saint Martin, Letters and dialogues. The edition by Georg Horn (1620-70) was an improvement over all previous editions. His notes are particularly extensive on the Sacred History, filling the majority of most pages in Roman type beneath the original text in italic above. Horn, a devout Protestant and professor of history at Leyden, went on to write his own universal Ecclesiastical History. Schönemann II 388 ff.; Graesse VI 376. Nice and clean copy.
