Albrecht Penck (1858-1945) at the time professor in Berlin made outstanding contributions on quarternary geology and chronology, geomorphology, hydrology, and cartography. His concept of Lebensraum loomed large with what might be considered a regrettable chauvinistic veneer and with strong hints at possible expansion. (Robert P. Beckinsale in DSB 10:506-8). The text on the postcard is illustrating just this very clear and unambiguous: Deutschland braucht mehr Lebensraum.
