Book condition : very good. - This book is the record of the proceedings of the Symposium organized through the Laboratory of Psychophysiology of the Faculty of Sciences, Paris, which is devoted to the study of human beings and animals as neurobiological units. The aim of the Symposium was to review the recent and important progress in the physiology, pharmacology and patho- genesis of pain and was organized in such a way that the different specialists invited were provided with a unique forum in which they could compare their different points of view and thus derive a total and unitary concept of pain. With the exception of the general conclusions, which have been printed in French as a tribute to the Sorbonne, all the papers and discussions appear in English. The order of presentation of the original contributions has been pre- served in the book. The programme there- fore follows a logical progression. The neurophysiological and psychophysiolo- gical bases are therefore discussed before the methodological problems of the study of pain; the biochemical and pharmacological bases before the clinical problems.
