First volume of a series of books on animal magnetism by Francesco Guidi. The author brought mesmerism to Italian theaters, starting to perform in 1851 in Turin and Genoa, first with the sleepwalker Amerigo, then with the sleepwalker Erminia and finally with Luisa who would become his wife. He founded the Turin Philomagnetic Society and clashed with the illusionist Zanardelli, challenging him to a duel in 1856 with sleepwalkers. He published the account of the challenge in 1863.
