Book condition : very good. - Samuels, Jules (1888-1975), known as Dr. J. Samuels, was a Dutch alternative healer. Samuels was originally a surgeon-gynecologist. He believed that many diseases were caused by a disturbance in the hormone system. Based on this, he developed the endogenous endocrino-therapy in which high-frequency alternating current via electrodes on the head would bring about healing. The cabinets needed were sold directly to patients by Samuels and, he said, were effective against a variety of diseases, including heart muscle and coronary artery disease. Samuels claimed to be able to cure cancer without the need for surgery, without drugs, and with preservation of the affected organ. After 1946 several publications appeared denouncing the effectiveness of the therapy, but until 1974 people continued to seek refuge in Dr. Samuels' shortwave boxes. The Vereniging tegen de Kwakzalverij (The Dutch Association Against Quackery) ranked J. Samuels second on its Top 20 list of quacks.
