Description: Antverpiae : Ex Architypographia Plantiniana, 1766. 2 works in 1 volume. (15), 474, cxlviii; 88, 2 pp. Contemporary dark brown calf, 8vo 15x22 cm; entirely printed in red and black; small engravings on the 2 title-pages; with 1 frontispiece and seven finely detailed full page engravings; decorated initials, many different, engraved tailpieces, some of them printed in red; 6 old textile tabs still present. Mailorder only - Alleen verzending mogelijk. Book condition : very good. Compilation of 2 prayer books modelled on the canonical hours of the 1568 Tridentine breviary of the Roman Catholic Church. Contents include a.o. calendar, Little Office of the Blessed Virgin, Penitential Psalms and litany of saints, suffrages (intercessory prayers addressed to saints), Office of the Dead, secondary components such as Hours and Office of the Cross, Hours and Office of the Holy Spirit etc. The 'commune sanctorum' section of our copy, paginated in roman numbers, contains an additional section of texts for users of this specific breviary edition, the 'plantiniana lectori' (cxii-cxxxix). The second work contains the specific proper of Saints related to the religious order of Heremits of St. Augustine. It has, as usual, supplements for a new or revised office: A small leaf, typographically identical printed in red and black, is inserted between pp. 24 and 25 for the april 26 in festo apparitionis sacrae Imaginis Mariae, and an additional leaf for april 6 and august 14 is bound at end and separately paginated; pp. 80-88 contain the martyrologium of the Heremits of St. Augustine. These editions not in Central Catalogue of Dutch Libraries (NCC); not in Belgian National Library (on-line); 1 copy found via KvK; Minor defects to paper; binding rubbed and worn; small stamp in upper right corner of frontispiece; some marginal scribbling on endpaper and frontispiece; first 80 pages loose; traces of use as expected.
