He published with his life work Theologia Moralis (first edition in 8 vols, Cologne 1707-1714) a commentary on and extension of the standard classic textbook Medulla theologiae moralis by Hermann Busenbaum and itself became one of the outstanding theological works of the 18th century. It went through 25 editions in 50 years and won for Lacroix the reputation of being one of the finest moralists of his age (in spite of the fact that he was criticized for making an abuse of casuistry). One of the later editions of this works served as a focal point of the opposition of the Jansenists to the Jesuits and was condamned by the parliament of Paris and publicly burnt in Toulouse. Early edition of this standard work, first printed in Italy.
