Book condition : very good. - Willem de Groot (1597-1662), younger brother of Hugo Grotius, was sworn in as advocate at the Hof van Holland and the Hoge Raad in 1618. In 1622 he started to work on this book, that had to comprise short biographies of 330 jurists, that were mentioned in the Justinian pandects. Doubtless inspired by the way the pandects were used in the procedural law of his days. Finally the work was published after his death by his son Jacob.
