Title: Mathematical and Philosophical Bookseller.
Description: c. 1849. Trade card, 55 x 115 mm. 2 book tickets, each 30 x 30 mm. one printed in blue, and a presentation inscription by Samuel Maynard to his nephew Henry Furse. Mounted on old pastedowns and odd pages from Robertson's Elements of Navigation. [NB. only fragments of the book: 2 boards, a couple of preliminary pages, one of which has the mounted trade card, and the title pages, one with the signature and date of the recipient. Samuel Maynard [active c. 1830 - 60], was one of the few specialist scientific booksellers of the period. here we have his most attractive trade card incorporating geometric shapes and mathematical formulae.
