Title: [Map and Aerial View] London Docklands.
Description: LDDC, 1986. Large colour printed wall map, 745 x 1300 mm. with old bluetack stains bleeding through on the outer margins. At a scale of approximately 5¾ inches to the mile, based on an original survey by ARKA Cartrographics. Set up in 1981, the LDDC was a government quango for the regeneration of the docklands area of East London. Although many of the proposals were fiercely resisted by the locals, and tensions still remain between original inhabitants and the newcomers, the developments on around 22 square kilometres of land brought in an estimated 120,000 new jobs and made the area sought after for residential housing. The LDDC was formally wound up in 1998 as its powers gradually reverted to the various London boroughs.
