Author: CHRISTIE and ANSELL Title: Particulars and Conditions of Sale of the Next Presentation to Seven Valuable Rectories and One Vicarage, most delightfully situate near several respectable Market Towns in the County of Worcester, which will be sold by Auction... on Wednesday, September 15, 1784.
Description: Mess. Christie and Ansell, 1784. Folio, 6 pages [lacking rear sheet with conditions of sale]. A rare 18th century sale catalogue for the tenancies and livings of a number of rectories and their income, the final leaf, missing here probably had the conditions and contract of sale which would have been completed and surrendered by a purchaser. The livings were at that time owned by Lord Foley, but presumably tenanted by another who claimed the rents for the livings: "The Present Patron, being only Tenant for Life, and consequently has only the Presentation, provided a Vacancy shall happen in the Life Time of his Lordship, who is aged about forty-four years: Therefore to set the Purchaser, or Purchasers of the several Presentations contained in this Particular, on the most certain Footing in point of Security, His Lordship will cause Policies of Insurance to be taken out of the Public Offices, at his Lordship's Expence [sic], insuring his Lordship's Life against each incumbent: which Policy shall be lodged with each Purchaser for his sole Use and Benefit> by which Means the Contingence and Risque is totally done away."
