Description: Birmingham: Chance Bros. & Co., 1862. Folio. pp. [2], colour title, 27 plates, all but one in colour. Tissue guard to tile is frayed. Original cloth, spine restored retaining most of the original, with the bookplate of Mark Girouard. The fine colour designs for stained glass windows are by Sebastian Evans, manager of the art department of pioneering glass manufacturing firm Chance Brothers in the West Midlands. Their new process of cylinder sheet glass manufacturing enabled them to glaze the Crystal Palace for the Great Exhibition in 1851 as well as the Houses of Parliament.
