Description: Rouen: E. Renault, [1884] Cotton handkerchief, 760 x 680 mm. a little wear and a few old tears in the centre. 10 instructional handkerchiefs were issued, designed by Commander P. Perrinon of the Rouen garrison. More durable than paper in broadside or handbook form, they covered various subjects including gun maintenance, artillery on manoeuvres, and, as here, instructions for laying out kit for inspection in barracks.
