Author: WARING & GILLOW [and GILLOWS & Co.] Title: The Showroom Catalogues.
Description: Waring & Gillows, c. 1910? 10 Volumes. This substantial collection of catalogues, each one 380 x 460 mm. probably contain a large proportion of the furniture offered by the firm at a particular time, comprising of almost 1,000 photographs illustrating around 1,200 designs. Almost certainly acting as showroom catalogues since the sheer number of items offered for sale would have been too large for display> many of the photographs annotated with sizes and prices. The 10 catalogues cover: Oak Period, Walnut Period, Mahogany Period [2 volumes], Italian French Flemish Italian, Reproductions in Walnut, Upholstery [3 volumes] and Miscellaneous. Further images are available on request. The firm of Waring & Gillow was created by the merger of Gillow & Co., established in around 1730, and S.J. Waring and sons, formed in c. 1835. Both firms produced fine English furniture, many on classical designs: Gillow patented a telescopic dining table and introduced the Davenport desk. The association of the two firms took place in the latter years of the 19th century with a formal merger to create Waring & Gillow in 1903.
