A loose bifolium has manuscript declaration regarding the Society and the Public and General Act [6th 7th Victoria Cap 36] which exempted certain the buildings of local scientific societies from public and general rates. Signed by Robert Stephenson as President of the Society. Robert Stephenson [1803 - 59], engineer, was the son of George Stephenson, "the Father of the Railway." Also signed by John Fenwick and Matthew Wheatley.
