Title: Proposals for Rendering the Body of the People Instrumental in the General Defence, Saving Their Property, and Distressing the Enemy, by Removing the Means of Subsistence from Threatened Parts of the Country.
Description: Published by Authority, [1798] 4to. pp. 16. Unbound, creased and a little browned, second gathering unopened. With the name of Colonel Entwisle commanding officer of the Lancashire Militia. This appears to be an early draft of these proposals which were later much expanded [see elsewhere in this catalogue]. It contains two proposals: "A plan for driving the live stock of such parts of the Country as may become exposed to the inroads of the enemy> as also for saving other descriptions of property, as much as possible, and for rendering the body of the people instrumental in the general defence, in case of an invasion> A plan for the Association of the Nobility, Gentry, and Yeomanry, to supply such number of wagons, carts, and horses, in aid of the provisions made by the Mutiny Act, as may be necessary for carrying on His Majesty's Service, with flour, wheat, oats, hay, straw, and fuel, in case of an invasion." It also prints copies of forms to be used to record requisitions, etc. No other copies of this early draft traced.
