Following the defeat of Napoleon in April 1814, the monarchy was restored under Louis XVIII, brother of Louis XVI, the last ruling monarch. This rare broadside prints letters from newspapers of the period leading up to the restoration originally appearing between February and April 1814. Included are letters from Louis-Antoine, Duc d'Angouleme [son of the future Charles X, the last king of France] and Charles Philippe of France [brother of Louis XVIII and the future Charles X], referring to the release of some 100,000 French prisoners of war by Tsar Alexander and a Declaration that conscription would be abolished, property restored, pensioners would receive at least half of their pension...
