Description: J. Jones, [1834] Hand coloured woodcut, 210 x 295 mm. with letterpress. With old repaired tears, and laid down. Prompted by the arrest and sentence to 7 years transportation of the Tolpuddle Martyrs this demonstration was organised by the Central Committee of the Metropolitan Trade Unions and included a procession through London, a demonstration in Copenhagen Fileds by around 100,000 people, with a wagon carrying a petition of over 200,000 signatures (shown in the engraving). The Home Secretary Lord Melbourne refused to accept the petition, although it was successfully delivered a week later. A cheap street broadside with woodcut illustration, this would appear to be rare, we have been unable to trace another copy.
