Description: 1780. Original watercolour, 145 x 190 mm. together with an engraved portrait of the author and an engraved view of his house published 1799. Samuel Richardson [1689 - 1761] was a printer, but more widely known as a novelist, the author of Pamela> or, Virtue Rewarded (1740), Clarissa: Or the History of a Young Lady (1748) and The History of Sir Charles Grandison (1753). He moved to this house in 1754 where he died in 1761.
