"We...return our most sincere and humble thanks to your Majesty, for being graciously pleased to augment and consolidate our pay, and shortening the period of settling our arrears, which will contribute to your happiness and comfort..." Also praising the building of barracks in different parts of Britain so that the soldiers did not have to be billeted in public houses, "...the general reception of vagabonds and sots, [where] our moral [sic] are corrupted, and by example and custom, the habit of drunkenness is acquired... being now relieved from the infernal cells of Kitchen, a Tap-room and a Garret, the purity of our morals will be preserved, the dignity of a Soldier maintained, and the commission of crimes and the infliction of punishment will be averted, and our pay being equal to the price of provisions, will enable us to live in happiness and comfort." Leesson, is presumably Lezennes, in Northern France, where the regiment fought during the War of the First Coalition against France. No other copies traced.
