This periodical lasted for a few short years during the heyday of railway expansion and is notable for a number of rare railway maps for existing and proposed lines, including those for Aberdeen Railway, Central Kent Railway, Irish Railways, Cornwall Junction Railways, Churnet Valley Railway, London Salisbury, and Yeovil Railway, Armagh, Coleraine and Portrush Railway, Kentish Coast Railway, Welsh Midland Railway, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway, Essex and Suffolk Railway, Wexford, Waterford and Velentia Railway, Bordeaux to the Mediterranean Railway, Overyssel Railway, South Midland Railway, London, Oxford, Cheltenham, Gloucester and Hereford Railway, Alto Duoro Railway [Portugal], Spanish and Portuguese Railways> in addition there are folding plates of a locomotive, a salvage vessel and a lifeboat among others. Edward Watkin [1819 - 1901] was a Railway King and Member of Parliament> a railway visionary who eventually chaired nine British railway companies.
