Presentation copy inscribed on title "To William Hutt Esq. with sincere Respect from the Author, JB" A history of the slave trade, together with an account of moves to abolish it. Sir William Hutt (1801-1882), to whom this copy is inscribed, was a keen supporter of free trade and took an active part in colonial and commercial questions. He was a commissioner for the foundation of South Australia.... As a member of the New Zealand Company, he was instrumental in annexing those islands to Great Britain. This same copy sold Sothebys in 1999.
