Broke, Bart. of His Majesty's Frigate The Shannon, in the Boarding and Capture of the American Frigate, The Chesapeake.

Shannon, during which engagement he was wounded by a cutlas to the head from which he was lucky to survive. It did mean the end of his naval career. He was presented with a large silver salver by the order of the gentlemen of Suffolk by the silversmith Solomon Hougham, and centrally decorated to a design a Mr Bevil, jeweller of Ipswich. This aquatint of the design was subsequently commissioned, engraved by Henry Meyer.
