Author: THAMES QUAY [Wm. LEAKE Honorary secretary] Title: At a Meeting of the Committee appointed for the purpose of taking inot their consideration the Plan proposed by Lieut.-Colonel Trench, for making a Quay on the north bank of the River Thames...
Description: J.B. Cartairs, printer, November 2, 1824. Printed notice 320 x 195 mm. Trench's proposals included the construction of a quay between Blackfriars and Charing Cross> the renovation of the old Palace of Westminster and the construction of an enormous palace in Hyde Park complete with a grand processional boulevard stretching from it to St Paul's Cathedral. None of these ideas came to fruition. The proposal for the quay went before Parliament but was rejected as it was deemed counterintuitive for riverine business. Nevertheless, Trench's idea of a quay along the Thames did finally come to fruition with Sir Joseph Bazalgette's construction of the present Victoria Embankment in the 1860s.
