Title: Fonthill Abbey - Wiltshire. Situated in the South Western part of the County in the Hundred of Dunworth. Near to the great Western road from London. And stands nearly due West from Salisbury Spire.
Description: 1831. Fine pencil drawing, 280 x 220 mm. captioned and signed. William Gunton [1791 - 1852] was an artist best known for his country scenes. Fonthill was constructed by William Beckford between 1796 and 1813 but suffered a number of collapses and rebuilding before being almost entirely demolished in c. 1845.
