Description: Plymouth: Creber, Colour Printer, 1885. 4to. pp. 16, plus outer orange wrappers. 240 x 185 mm. Not a "World's Fair" as such, but a fair incorporating amusing entertainment and displays which took place in St. Mary's Hall, adjacent to the main complex which was used for the annual Smithfield Agricultural Show. Typical and familiar performances and displays could be seen including the Mohawk Minstrels, zoological exhibits by Bostock and Wombwell "who have the largest travelling menagerie in the World" together with "Captain Dudley Vane, the Monarch of all Lion Kings." Also performing birds, a mechanical exhibition of silk manufacture, Great Ghost Show and Mammoth Pantescope, Professor Chittock's ever pleasing Dog and Monkey Circus, Miniature Channel Tunnel Railway, an Olympian Temple, etc. "A grand Panorama, painted on 3000 feet of canvas, by Mr. Thomas Rogers, illustrating the History of Fairs from their origin, will be stretched above the Wild Beasts."
