Description: Martin's, lithographers, c. 1830. 2 items on pale orange card, 85 x 125 mm. and 105 x 80 mm. The charity was established in 1709 "to provide education and instruction in religious and useful knowledge agreeably to the formularies of the Church of England, as well as clothing, maintenance, and a home for the legitimate children (whether orphans or not, and from every nation) of parents who have seen better days, and have moved in a superior station in life." It was situated at various locations settling here at a purpose built school in 1829> it moved again to a large new school in Redhill in 1884. This building was designed by John R. Taylor, architect and constructed by Young and Sons.
