Description: Dunthorne's Galley, 1892. Ticket on card, 120 x 170 mm. This item may have at some time been mounted and will bear traces on the reverse of adhesive or removal of mounts. John Trivett Nettleship [1841 - 1902], known as a painter of large oils of lions, tigers, etc. was invited to India in 1880 by the Gaekwar of Baroda, for whom he painted a cheetah hunt. He later painted his familiar animals in pastel and on a smaller scale, as exhibited here. His daughter Ida, also an artist, became the first wife of Augustus John.
