Title: An Artist's Ramble in the North of Scotland.
Description: [Ackermann], [1849] Large folio. Engraved title page and 24 full page lithographs, some tinted. Publisher's original half morocco a little worn on the corners, cloth sides unevenly discoloured, lettered in gilt. Gutta percha starting to perish with a number of plates loose. Internally clean and bright. Presentation copy inscribed by the artist "à> Monsieur J. Mills Souvenir de reconnaissance et d'affection M Bouquet." Michel Bouquet [1807 - 1890] was a French landscape painter working predominantly on the Continent, North Africa and Asia Minor. This is a very fine series of lithographs by a master of light and shade, showing Scotland at all times of the day and in all weathers. It is considered the rarest nineteenth century illustrated work of Scotland although a companion volume 'The Tourist's Ramble in the Highlands,' the same size and format has fewer listed locations. Locations at BL, NLS, V&A and Aberdeen University.
