Field found the work ".. a curious and very interesting history, particularly of the secret mysteries of the worship of the Incas, and the peculiarities of each tribe of Indians inhabiting Peru," (Indian bibliography, p. 76). "The work of Cieza is, in many respects, one of the most remarkable literary productions of the age of Spanish Conquest in America," according to Markham.
