Covers the English expedition to the sources of the Nile, the great German expedition directed by Munzinger was to explore Eastern Sudan "The project was abandoned because the king of Darfur denied authorization to go further in Sudan than Darfur. The Gatha put their hopes in Mr. de Beurmann who's plan was to arrive in Quadây by the western side of the country. Mr. de Heuglin accompanied by Mr. Shubert and doctor Steudner reached Gondar after an expedition through the Simen mountains. Mr. Livingston explored the Shire river which can be reached via the Zambézi river who's water empties into the strait that separates Madagascar from the African continent. The provinces on the side of Nyanga lake in which the Shire river enters are populated by the Maravi on the West side and on the North side by the Marimba, the Matoumboka, the Makousa and the Mazite. The Mazite are Zulu" (Smithsonian). Also Syria, the Schlagintweit brothers expedition to Inidam Kashmir, Tibet with images engravings of Tibetan landscapes, Tibetans, and the interior of a Tibetan Temple. A very good copy, scattered foxing.
