Author: FINE ARTS CENTER CAMPAIGN Title: Completion of Performing Arts Building
Description: Fort Wayne, IN 1971 8 double sided illustrated sheets, with custom cut corner (some additional relevant materials loosely inserted) 29x32, illustrated box with individually cut sheets Box a little rubbed, contents very good to near fine. Commemoration publication marking the completion of the only element of Louis Kahn's ambitious project for an Arts Center for the Indiana city of Fort Wayne. Kahn was commissioned in the early 1960s, but his initial designs exceeded the available budget by a factor of ten. The Campaign, realising that they needed to cut their cloth somewhat, focused on the completion of the Performing Arts Building, which is Kahn's only building in the Mid-West. The striking and anthropomorphic entrance - it looks very like a face - remained from the original grand designs.
