Author: COOK Olive, with photos by SMITH Edwin Title: The Sense of Continuity in a Hertfordshire Parish: A Study of Anstey Commission on the Third London Airport
Description: Nuthampstead Preservation Association 1970 59pp, numerous bw photographs throughout 24x24, stapled wraps Cover foxed with owner's name on front, spine slightly rubbed, contents including photographs very good. Very rare. Produced as part of the campaign against one of the four sites considered in depth by the Roskill Commission between 1968 and 1971 as the possible location for London's Third Airport (the site chosen was Cublington in Buckinghamshire on the basis of a cost-benefit analysis; the Government rejected what Colin Buchanan called 'an environmental disaster' in favour of the Maplin Sands proposal, but in the end neither went ahead). The authors had already written campaigning works in opposition to the expansion of Stansted airport near their home in Essex, and the photographs in particular are extremely powerful.
