High Victorian history as a series of thrilling adventures, with illustrations. Probably a better advert for the printing by Butler and Tanner than the work of the historians, but a great example of its kind. In an echo of 21st century events, one section is devoted to the fate of the Circassians, victims of a genocidal war of expansion by the Russian Empire. The presentation text is from the Military Road Board School (probably in Northampton) to one Arthur Wykes as a prize for merit and attendance.
