Description: London, printed by B MacMillan for G Nicol, bookseller 1798 xvii, [3], 597pp, [1], coloured folding engraved map frontispiece, second folding map, fold-out table of mortality. 22x14, half bound in calf over marbled boards Front board and first signature with map detached, top of spine pulled with small piece missing, institute label on ffep, some pencil marks on front and rear eps, couple of stamps, including one on Enfield Chase map, generally good thus. The rarest of Middleton's agricultural surveys, and considered to be among the best. Very detailed, full of information about how this now predominantly urbanised county was farmed before the expansion of London. Condition is not great, but could be restored or rebound to make a nice copy.
