Title: The Lily and the Bee. An Apologue of the Crystal Palace
Description: Edinburgh and London, William Blackwood and Sons 1851 224pp, [1] 17x12, blue cloth, glt decoration and edges Cloth marked and faded, corners lightly bumped, good thus. Dedication by the author to a fellow parliamentarian (the Right Honourable Lord ?Chesterfield? - the name is not clear) on the title page. A frankly odd essay combining prose and poetry inspired by the Great Exhibition - a modern reader might wonder if the author had been at the laudanum. Apparently the poetic spirit of King Alfred was at work. Warren was an MP and barrister as well as a novelist. A non-conformist Tory, his political career (1856-59) was brief, but coincides with the date of the dedication (1857).
