Cloth edgeworn, with chip out of back cover, spine extremities frayed, bookseller's small blind stamp on ffep, attractive presentation plate (Carnmenellis Sunday School, dated 1884) on fep, some foxing to edges, fair to good thus. Nicely presented Christian work, strongly influenced by social research into poverty. The message - that those in the most acute poverty are those most deserving, not the least - is one with contemporary meaning. Carnmenellis was a small parish in Cornwall, lying between Redruth, Helston and Falmouth.
