Description: London, Chiswick Press 1889 78pp, many illustrations, lots of contemporary advertisements. 18x12, illustrated wraps Binding cracked, spine of wraps torn with small tape repair, otherwise very good. Opened in 1885, the Metropole was one of the most modern of London's late Victorian hotels. After being requisitioned in both World Wars for Government use it remained as offices for the Ministry of Defence until 2007, before being reopened as the Corinthia Hotel in 2011. The advertisements feature many famous brands - Kodak, Louis Vuitton, Pears as endorsed by Lillie Langtry no less, and many others.
