Title: Economics of Diplomacy; the Commercial Policy of Nations; a Selection of Readings from Culbertson and Others [Vol. 1] ; Documents of Economic Diplomacy; a Selection of Commercial Treaties and Documents [Vol. 2]. Two Volume Set
Description: Washington, D.C. School of Foreign Service, Georgetown University, 1949. Hardcover. Covers of vol. 1 faintly mottled, and front hinge shaken; pages faintly toned, with occasional underlining; previous owner's name on title page of both volumes; otherwise very good condition (no dust jackets). Two volumes, separately paged. The author, Professor of Economics at the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service, explains in the preface to the first volume that, although the two volumes are separately titled, they are intended as parts 1 and 2 of the same work (which has no collective title), made necessary because "Historians, while currently including the economics of history in their works, have not yet included the economics of diplomacy to any degree," while, on the other hand, "Texts dealing with the economic principles underlying tariffs and other trade controls omit the historical background of commercial doctrines." This text, now quite scarce, informed the thinking of a generation of American diplomats. .
