 - Album amicorum (1842-1845)

Title: Album amicorum (1842-1845)
Description: Album amicorum of Anne (possibly Johanna Petronella van Rossen Amsterdam (Keizersgracht) 15 maart 1823-) van Rossen, with 9 contributions with various techniques: prickings, needlepoints, drawings, poems. One contribution is anonymous, the others are by: C.J. Scharp, G.H. Keller (Amsterdam 1842), J.G. Bruijns (Kampen 1845), S.L.W. Gersom (Kampen 1845), Jeanette ("In den Album van mejuffr. Anne van Rossen"), H.E.d.G (1842), G. Gisius (Amsterdam 1843, "dans l'album de Mad. J.P. v. Rossen") and J. Gisius. Two contribution mention miss Anne van Rossen, so it is clear this was her album amicorum. It concerns a book-like box, covered in fabric (silk?) and decorated with gilded decorations, gilded edges and some metal work. On the inside we find the 9 contributions on separate sheets, some with gilded edges, the sheets can be lifted up with the help of the original green ribbon, there is beautiful blue embossed paper on the inside of the cover and as a protective sheet on top of the contributions, the blue paper is also decorated with a gilded border. The decorations show classical iconography: Apollo with his lyre on the front, Cupid with his arrow on the back, Apollo returns on the inside of the cover, accompanied by more musical intruments. The hinge has been professionally restored, there is some damage to the construction of the box and some damage to the decorative elements, but overall it is an attractive album amicorum in good condition and with lovely entries.
