Description: "The Final Church-going". A funeral processions approaches a village church in the background. They are passing by a field where a farmer stands with his head bowed to the procession. Tone lithograph on wove paper, sheet size 258 x 350 mm., image size 120 x 215 mm. Lithographed after his own design by Jacob Jan van der Maaten, and printed by C.W. Mieling, 1862. Jacob Jan van der Maaten (Elburg 1820-1879 Apeldoorn) was a Dutch lithographer, watercolorist, etcher and painter. He was a student of Hendrik van de Sande Bakhuyzen, and a member of the Haagsche Etsclub, and one of the founders of Pulchri Studio. In good condition, some foxing in the (ample) margins. Paper loss in the top right margin corner (from former mounting).
