He is best known for his important biographical chronicle: 'Le Parnasse françois', composed of brief anecdotal life descriptions of famous French poets and musicians of his time. Engraving on hand laid paper, sheet size 263 x 193 mm., platemark 148 x 105 mm. Engraved by Gilles Edme Petit after Nicolas de Largillière, and published by Petit, 1750. Gilles Edme Petit (c. 1694-1760) was a French engraver and publisher, specialising in portraits and reproductions after Lancret and Boucher. HE was the brother-in-law of François Chéreau. Nicolas de Largillière (1656-1746) was a major French portrait painter. In excellent condition, ample margins, attached to carrier by all founr corners.
