Description: Oval portrait of Pierre Mignard (1612-1695), a French painter known for his religious and mythological scenes and portraits. He was a near-contemporary of Charles Le Brun, with whom he engaged in a bitter, life-long rivalry. Engraving on wove paper, sheet size 209 x 152 mm., platemark 152 x 103 mm., engraved by Étienne Ficquet after Hyacinthe Rigaud. Étienne Ficquet (1719-1794) was a French engraver. Hyacinthe Rigaud (Perpignan 1659-1743 Paris) was a French (court) painter, art collector, and teacher at the Académie Royale de Peinture et de Sculpture. He was an apprentice of Lafosse and Lebrun. In very good condition, a few spots in the top margin, and some faint soiling in the right margin edge.
