Camille Hyacinthe Odilon Barrot (1791-1873) was a French politician who was briefly head of the council of ministers under king Louis Phillipe in 1848-49. Steel engraving on wove paper, sheet size 270 x 181 mm., platemark 223 x 152 mm. Engraved after his own drawing by Émile Giroux, based on the painting by Ary Scheffer, published in: Cormenin, Louis-Marie de Lahaye. Livre des orateurs. Parijs: L.A. Pagnerre, 1842. Émile Giroux (active c. 1830-1860) was a French printmaker. Ary Scheffer (1795-1858) was a Dutch-French Romantic painter. He was known for his works based on literature, as well as religious subjects. He was also a prolific painter of portraits of famous and influential people in his lifetime. In very good condition, some soiling in the blank space of the image area. Margin edges faintly discoloured.
