Description: Bust-length portrait of Pierre-Antoine Berryer, looking forward. Pierre-Antoine Berryer (1790-1868) was a French advocate and parliamentary orator. He was the twelfth member elected to occupy Seat Four of the Académie française in 1852. Steel engraving on wove paper, sheet size 271 x 179 mm., platemark 225 x 153 mm. Engraved by Tony Goutière after the painting by Marckl. Published in: Cormenin, Louis-Marie de Lahaye. Livre des orateurs. Parijs: L.A. Pagnerre, 1842. Tony Goutière (Toul 1808-1890 Paris) was a French printmaker, illustrator and etcher.He was a student of Jean Thouvenin. Louis Marckl (1807-?) was a French draughtsman and engraver, specialising in book vignettes. In very good condition. A few small (pencil?) marks in the blankl edge of the image area.
